Got Any Tips For Keeping Warm In Winter?

Replies:

1. Wellies keep your feet dry but are far too cold for me. Instead get some water proof boots. I have some 'The North Face' boots that have a tounge that is attached to he rest of the shoe so no water can leak in. I used them on the Isle of Arran (Scotland) and they were great. In rain or snow, walking over pebbled beaches to rockky hills to muddy lowlands. I wear them on every fishing trip. Great stuff!

Another tip... always take a mobile and make sure its in a zipped pocket. There is nothing worse than landing a fish and your mobile drops into the water.

2. Something I observed a couple of weeks ago, on the bankside, a young lad with a small hot water bottle (apparently put up by his mother) keeping his hands warm. So I thought, where could I get a small hot water bottle, Mmmm.... Poundland, 2 for a pound. Now I take 2 flasks with me, one for my coffee and one for a flask of hot water to fill the hot water bottle for when I get cold. "lovely jubbly" and the flask holds enough water for 4 refils (one of those pump action ones)....

3. You can't beat a nice fleecy hat - keep your head warm = keep the rest of you warm.

4. I use those disposable hot gel packs and find them excellent. They last for a good few hours and I can get them at 2 for £1. That said I bought the rechargeable version last Winter which is a waste of time as they only last for about 45 mins.

5. Thermal underwear and a fleece hat.

The theory goes that if you protect your vital organs - brain, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys etc - then your body doesn't withdraw the heat away from your fingers and toes.
