Hot Shot Rod: A term from USA to describe a strong butted yet very light tipped rod designed for use with swimming or diving plugs which are fished while stationary or drifting. The river or stream current causes the plug to dive and hold close to bottom. The angler watches the action of the plug by the movement of the light rod tip and the heavy butt section sets the hook on a take.
